About Me:

I've been using knives all of my life. I was a professional chef for many years which really taught me to love and take care of my knives as well as what does and doesn't work in a kitchen knife. After leaving the restaurant industry, I began carving wooden spoons as a way of still working with my hands. Through this, I started making handles for sloyd knives from other makers and learning more and more about the knifemaking process.

After a while, I decided it was time for me to start making my own blades... and boy were those first ones rough. Knowing a lot about knives doesn't translate directly to being able to make one. After finally getting to a place where I was confident in my abilities as a knife maker I began J.Lopiccolo Blades.

When I'm not making knives, I work full time overseeing young scientists working in fisheries and watershed restoration though my passion is marine invertebrates and algae... I live in scenic Eureka on the North coast of California with my wife Natalie and our two dogs, Indianapolis 500 the Dog and Rosario Dogson.
